SH:LAM (The Doctor) (Mawenzi House 2019) was shortlisted for the Dorothy Livesay Prize in 2020 and his latest book\, The East Side of it All (Nightwood Editions 2020) has just been shortlisted for the 2021 Dorothy Livesay Prize and the 2021 Griffin Poetry Prize. \nShane Book’s first collection\, Ceiling of Sticks\, won the Prairie Schooner Book Prize and the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award and was a Poetry Society of America Selection. His second volume\, Congotronic\, won the Archibald Lampman Award and was a finalist for the Canadian Authors Association Award\, Ottawa Book Award\, and Griffin Poetry Prize. He is also a filmmaker whose work has screened at film festivals on five continents and on television. He was educated at New York University\, the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and Stanford University where he was a Wallace Stegner Fellow. An Associate Professor in the Department of Writing at the University of Victoria\, his third poetry collection\, All Black Everything\, will be published in 2022. \nBardia Sinaee was born in Tehran\, Iran\, and currently lives in Toronto. Every One visualizes the data behind the MMIWQT crisis\, transforming large and abstract numbers into a representation of individual lived experiences. Responding to data collected by the Native Women’s Association of Canada\, Luger created a call to action video shared through social media that invited communities across the United States and Canada to make 2-inch clay beads\, each one representing a unique person who has been lost. Hundreds of participants held workshops\, both with Luger and on their own\, making the beads in studios\, community centres\, universities\, and private homes. These experiences generated over 4\,000 beads\, as well as numerous conversations\, stories\, and occasions for healing through clay. \nEvery One references and stands in solidarity with the photograph Sister by Kali Spitzer. Spitzer explores the individual stories behind the MMIWQT crisis through portraiture and self-representation. She works in the medium of tintypes\, a photographic process popular in the 1860s and 1870s\, particularly with settlers in the Canadian and American West. As the sun descends and this free outdoor massive choral event begins\, the city will be enveloped in sound coming from the land\, water and from above. A soundtrack for the city\, the performance comes with a powerful history and a promise: “as long as the sun shines; as long as the waters flow downhill; and as long as the grass is green.” \nMaada’ookii is an Ojibway word\, with several slightly different meanings.
