SUMMARY:Biziindan!
DESCRIPTION:‘Biziindan’ means ‘listen or listen to’ in Anishinaabemowin\, the language of the Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe peoples). Through the power of music\, BIZIINDAN! encourages listeners to actively consider their roles and responsibilities to the land\, water\, and Indigenous ancestral territories. \nInspired by the surge of the Indigenous global revolution\, BIZIINDAN! features the diverse music and voices at the forefront of this movement: highly regarded cultural leader and chanteuse Marie Gaudet\, 2010 Juno Award-winning band Digging Roots\, 2017 Polaris Music Prize-winner Lido Pimienta\, award-winning legendary artist Pura Fe\, and 2018’s Polaris Music Prize-winner Jeremy Dutcher. The relentless activism of the featured artists will reflect their truths and determination to shift\, disrupt and make change. \nA highlight of the evening is a tribute performance to the legacy of Mi’kmaq and Scottish artist\, Willie Dunn\, a pioneer of protest ballads and advocate for Indigenous rights. This finale performance will feature a newly commissioned arrangement of Dunn’s single written for his prolific film and Canada’s first music video\, The Ballad of Crowfoot (1968-NFB). \n— \nMore tickets are available through the Koerner Hall website: https://www.rcmusic.com/events-and-performances/luminato-presents-biziindan! \n— \nCREATIVE PRODUCER/DIRECTION\nDenise Bolduc \nLIGHTING & IMAGE DESIGN\nMichel Charbonneau \nPRODUCTION & TECHNICAL MANAGER\nDuncan MacMillan \nSTAGE MANAGER\nJennifer Lee \nTHE BALLAD OF CROWFOOT FINALE \nMUSIC DIRECTOR/ARRANGER\nRaven Kanatakta \nSTRING ARRANGEMENT\nOwen Pallett \nSTRING TRIO\nSuhashini Arulanandam\nAmahl Arulanandam\nAlyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk \n— \nBIZIINDAN! is supported by Slaight Music. \nThe United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages to raise awareness of the global crisis Indigenous languages face and to inspire all peoples to take action by supporting Indigenous language speakers. \nLuminato is grateful for the support of the National Film Board. \n—\nAccessibility \nHearing Assistance Devices \nAll performances

SUMMARY:Storytelling\, Community\, Indigenous Art & Knowledge Sharing
DESCRIPTION:Presented by MUSE Arts and One Land\, One People who are honoured to work in solidarity with Indigenous artist Isaac Murdoch! Read bio below: \n“My name is Bomgiizhik (Revolving Sky) and am from Serpent River First Nation. I am fish clan and live in a small Ansihinabek Village called Nimkii Aazhibikoong.\nHaving spent many years active in securing indigenous rights for our future generations in the north\, I felt a strong need to help our relatives in the south achieve the same equality and human rights that we are striving for. We are connected and have strong ties. \nThere is a prophecy of when the condor meets the eagle. They say this has happened already and are in a time of great change. They say Indigenous ppl will rise up and help protect the planet in a time of great sorrow. I believe this is our calling. \nWe all come from these lands and are in solidarity. \nOne Land\, One People “ \nIsaac Murdoch \nAny donation you give during this event \,will support the work done by Muse Arts and One Land One People. You can donate at the door. *
